Satire in American Culture

Reading the satirical essay, "Body Ritual Among the Nacirema", was very eye-opening. At the beginning of reading it, I wasn’t sure what I was reading about and was confused regarding what the text was saying because it sounded so academic. But after finding out the real meaning behind this essay I found it very humorous how weird our practices are and gave me a new perspective to see how what might be normal to me may not always seem so straightforward or logical to others. Legos and Life

Legos were the best thing ever, I could create countless alternate universes with them and build their life and story along with it, it was all up to my imagination and creativity. Particularly the FRIENDS legos, I even had a whole encyclopedia about each and every character and I would read it every night before bed. Women were left to take care of the children while the men went and fought in the war. Men at the time were made out to be the providers for the family and the women were at home running the house and caring for the children. As the world modernized these gender roles became normal thus perpetuating the belief that women inhere...
