Supernatural Science?

Image
Dear Phyllis,  I have tried to answer your question in the most basic way I could come up with. This is my reply. Scientific research comes from the idea that anything that happens in the world stems from the laws of nature and it is obvious that this links to the actions of humans. Because of this idea, a research scientist  would almost never believe that an event in the world was caused by some supernatural monster.       But honestly , our idea of scientific research has many flaws so some part of this idea is mostly based in our faith of not believing in such monsters, and our understanding of the world. This faith has worked for us and seems to be working onwards, judging from the success in scientific research.     On the other hand though, anyone who goes deep enough down the rabbit hole of science, becomes convinced  that spirits are apart of the law of the Universe, a spirit that is far higher than anything of a man. Time Travel

The idea of Time Travel is fascinating. The idea is that one is given the power to go back to the past and relive their most precious or saddest moments. Time Travel is very popular in our culture today and in fact, I recently finished a Kdrama, A Time Called You, that is based heavily on this idea of Time Travel. It got me thinking about all the significant actions that make up our past and lead to our future. And who should have the right to change our future? No one. It's just wrong. Is it? What if it was to stop the Titanic, prevent millions from dying, and prevent a million more from mourning their loved ones? Is it OK then? Is it ethical? No one knows the underlying effects of preventing the Titanic. We would've never seen the  Titanic,  though that is a small effect, there are probably many more that would change the world and how it is perceived. Who is telling what is right and wrong? It is all subjective. So if one has the chance should they change tragic but importa...

Existentialism

Every single day we have to make choices. Thousands of them. 'Am I going to wake up at 6 and have time or am I going to wake up at 6:45 and rush my way to school?'But sometimes theres even bigger choices we have to make like having the right attitude as we go through life.  Maybe you wont really think about this on the daily. Maybe you'll just think about it while trying to fall asleep at night, turning and tossing in your bed, and deeper thoughts come to. "How do I go through life?' 'What is my purpose?" 'Who am I?' These are all thoughts I'm sure most of us have had.  But no one can get out of decision making. The choices we make stay forever and sometimes it doesn't matter but looking back on it maybe it does, 'Should I have acted differently?' 'Why did I say that?' Regret is what can result when we don't make aware or mindful choices.  "This is water" by David Foster Wallace explains the idea that your choi...

Intention in Commemoration

Intention is everything. Being straightforward in what you are thinking and executing that to your precise vision. Memorials have that effect. Memorials have always been meaningful to the public and hold deep value to our history and culture. It is a way to honor those who have made the history that we look back on. Monuments/Memorials give us a chance to mourn and pay our respects. By placing intention on every aspect of these memorials it gives these monuments a more intricate meaning through the way we can perceive it. I recently learned that the  Vietnam Veteran Memorial  symbolizes a cut into the earth that will always be there but will slowly heal and look to the future. The location of this monument is another component of the memorial that demonstrates significant intention. The Vietnam Veteran Memorial is situated between the Lincoln Memorial, which commemorates the past, and the Washington Monument, which looks forward. By placing the memorial between two monu...
